Haley, this looks so lovely! I would love to get it for my kiddos and be able to support you (we’re going through OCIA and also working on kitchen skills), but curious how GF friendly most of the recipes are? We’ve got some food restrictions to work around so I’d hate to have it be a tease for them.
Great question! 17 of the 33 recipes are completely gluten free but some of the remaining 16 recipes could be tweaked. A few of them (like King Cake) would be difficult to make gluten-free!
Hi Annelise, I've been on a food sensitivity journey this past year and have been learning from Danielle Walker. She has some great tips about how to convert traditional recipes to GF friendly. Sometimes, it's a matter of subbing in some one-for-one flour, like Bob's Red Mill for example. If you feel comfortable experimenting, I bet this cookbook would be a wonderful resource for your kids!
Haley, your creative spirit and devotion to excellence in kidlit is an ongoing inspiration to me. I can't wait to see what you make next! You'll be in my prayers.
Haley, this is perhaps an odd question, but do many of the recipes call for sugar? I have a daughter who would love this, but she's working through a sensitivity to sugar (she can have natural/unrefined sweeteners, like honey, maple syrup, dates, and coconut sugar, but not refined/white sugar), and I'd hate to give her a Christmas gift she could only barely use.
What a sweet idea! I’ve been exploring more ways to incorporate the liturgical year / rituals into our home. This is so unique! Thinking of you!
Thank you, Abby!
