I'm curious about those movies you mentioned. What ages would you say they are best for?

I would say Kiki is good for all ages, and it’s been a while since I’ve seen it but I think Princess Mononoke is for an older set, more like 10+.

My 11yo with non-speaking autism and my 9yo both love "Kiki's Delivery Service." Another must-see is "The Secret World of Arrietty" -- if you haven't watched that yet. (It is especially meaningful if you've read through "The Borrowers" series with your kids.)

Since the Spring I've actually been working to downsize my own book collection. It's hard work!! I've built up so much attachment to many of my books. One rule I'm trying (not always successfully) to abide by is to part with titles that I also own in audio and/or ebook format. If I had to choose only a very few books to keep, I would of course treasure my Tolkien and Lewis collections. And I'd probably keep my Library of America volumes. I also have some out of print books that I'll hang on to.

Rest for parents is so hard! We get away from the house and kids a few times a year, made possible because my parents live five minutes away and are more than happy to watch our kids overnight. We aim for a yearly "honeymoon" with just us (sometimes a big trip, more often an Airbnb a few hours away) and a few separate vacations as well (he hunts, I go to Disney or a lake town with friends). It's a privilege to have the opportunity to get away like this, and I can say without a doubt that it's a balm to my soul and a boost to my parenting when I come home. Pouring from a full cup and all that!
