I’m a proud domer and have never ever exhausted the beauty that campus has to offer. Seeing the grotto (my confirmation saint was Bernadette) was how God let me know that ND was the right place for me, and both the grotto and basilica are sacred spaces that were instrumental in both my maintaining my faith in a very difficult time in my life, and helped me discern my vocation as wife/mother. I have been obsessed with The Lost King ever since I saw the trailer weeks ago, and I am also obsessed with the Princes in the Tower. I loved the Daughter of Time, and recommend as a nonfiction counterpoint to it Allison Weir’s study of the Princes. She’s one of my favorite popular historians. And finally, having recently sold my home and been told by our realtor to get rid of the “clutter” of our books/bookshelves in order to make our house “show ready” I seriously connect to the Wagner article
ALSO. Loved the kitchen/home pieces. I think about this nearly every day, how the main workspaces of our homes, our kitchens, have increasingly moved from functionality to aesthetics, even as we've added more and more "conveniences" to that sphere. It's really fascinating, and I keep thinking that it really isn't meant to be that way. There is nothing shameful about a lived-in home or a kitchen that appears to have been used, and yet we expect to be able to maintain a sparkling white space at all times. The reality is that there is almost constantly some kind of work in progress in the kitchen! But oh, I do love when it's clean ;)
My husband and I recently upgraded to flip phones :) We went with Sunbeam Wireless. The model I got supports group texting and has simple navigation and weather, but no internet. Hope that helps! https://sunbeamwireless.com/
I also wonder if the ascension of greige has to do with our visual overstimulation due to media. I get the desire for calm/blank space, but I think the thirst for that visual greyscale is due to our overstimulation.
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris is such a charming film even if it is partly a Christian Dior advertisement. I really loved watching a good person having good things happen to them.
My husband is a die-hard no smart phone person but recently had to upgrade from his flip phone due to the inability to receive group texts which was causing problems with work communication. He landed on a Wisephone and has been really happy with it. It has phone, texting, and maps. It’s the best option we have come across for adults because it just looks like a regular phone and has a really pleasing interface that isn’t childish. I’ve actually been tempted to switch to one myself!
I agree with you, will read anything by Clare Coffey and this piece was a gem.
I was recently introduced to the movie Mrs Harris and the short book it’s based on, and while I enjoyed the movie a lot for what it was, the book was even better!
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris sounds like the perfect thing to help me get through some recent rough bouts of teething with my 7mo-thanks for the recommendation! Also, I found those thoughts on group chat really interesting. I have only ever owned super basic non-smartphone, but for years, they didn't have capabilities for group chats. I definitely missed out on some things, and it made communication clunky if the phone would notify me that someone texted me but I couldn't open it because it was a group chat, picture message, or contained lots of emojis. A year or two ago, my phone wasn't working very well at all so I needed a new one and got a Nokia 6300 4G. It's kind of glitchy and has a terrible camera, but it DOES have group chat abilities. And while it has internet and comes with apps, the internet does not work well at all (if I absolutely need to, I can use it for maps/directions). It's probably not what you are looking for with a teenager, but for a thirty-year-old who tries to stay away from lots of technology, it fits my needs pretty well ;)
Ahh! Both of those films look so delightful. Thanks for recommending them - I'm so excited to check them out!
The Notre Dame campus is so beautiful, and I've never gotten enough time to wander during the few times I've been there. The last time was in summer 2019 and the Basilica was closed to the public because of a wedding. 😭

I'll have to check out Weir's book!
She’s a great author to check out for any lover of British history!

Agreed!

I love both those home articles. Our house is colorful and eccentric and lived in. It's never trade it for clean greige!
I also wonder if the ascension of greige has to do with our visual overstimulation due to media. I get the desire for calm/blank space, but I think the thirst for that visual greyscale is due to our overstimulation.
Ooh, interesting idea. I could see all the screens being a factor!

Yes! She was so darling!
Will be ordering daughter of time asap 🤓🤓
You will not regret it.

Oh, that's great to hear! I'll look into the book.

Aw bummer!
Thanks for the shout out, Haley! Also definitely getting my hands on that Daughter of Time book 👀 sounds awesome
I think you'd love it!
Lol. It's our Daughter of Time era.
It's the only Tey book I've read but I'd love to read more!
