These sentences really leapt out at me: “true festivity is a kind of worship. It is a gratitude to our Creator that we exist and an acknowledgement that this existence we have been given is good.”

I so agree, and as you also said it feels so hard to break free of the vanilla space we live in today with neither Lent nor feasting. Lots to ponder, thank you!

I’d love to share this to Facebook. This describes how I grew up, how I raised my children & what I hope to enjoy with future grandchildren. It’s also what the world needs to know about Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I think you need to write a column about this in the Clarion Herald.

Yes, growing up in the Midwest, I remember hearing about the atrocities of Mardi Gras. My viewpoint changed after living in southwest Louisiana for a season. Thanks for sharing. NOLA really is an amazing city!

Thank you for this glimpse into Mardi Gras!! It always sneaks up on me and every year I think “we’ll really celebrate next year.” I never knew it was more than one day!
